Berkey® Stainless systems are available in a size for every need. The Berkey Light is the newest Berkey system and is made of 50-mil thick Lexan® polycarbonate, the material used to make bulletproof glass and industrial safety face shields The basic Berkey Light� is non-illuminated. Its Lexan® polycarbonate shell is incredibly tough, yet lightweight compared to similarly sized purifiers made of other materials. In addition to the standard model, the Berkey Light® is available in two models with an additional charge that offer LED illumination in either white or cobalt blue color (check the color option in the cart if you wish to order the Berkey Light with LED illumination). "LED" stands for "Light Emitting Diode." LEDs are solid state lamps that have no filaments to break. Their power consumption is extremely low and life span averages 100,000 hours - more than 11 years of continuous use. Water purification performance is identical for all three Berkey Light® models. The LED-equipped models provide illumination that guides users to the water supply at night when other lighting isn't available and also provide area lighting that's bright enough for reading near the purifier (the white is much brighter than the blue). The LED lamps can be powered by several means. An AC adapter (included) can be used when 120 Volt AC current is available. Rechargeable internal batteries, also included, will operate the LEDs all night on a single charge from the AC adapter. For decades Berkey® durable, stainless steel water purification systems have produced safe water for millions around the globe. The Berkey Light® comes with the new Black Berkey® purifying elements and functions at a rate of efficiency of 2-3/4 gallons per hour. The Berkey Light® cannot be expanded to additional purification elements. The lower storage tank capacity is 1.5 gallons. Flow rate is 2.75 gallons per hour with two elements. Includes two Black Berkey® purification elements which is the maximum it can accommodate. The Berkey Light® system can purify up to 66 gallons per day when the upper chamber is full and is the perfect choice when mobility is a key concern. Perfect for camping and a small abode. Unparalled in effectiveness for a home based counter top water purifier, Berkey® purifiers using the Black Berkey® purification elements have been proven to reduce pathogenic bacteria (including E. Coli, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Giardia and Cryptosporidium) by 99.99999%. The Black Berkey® filter formulation has been tested by State & EPA accredited laboratories and exceeds EPA & ANSI/NSF (Std. 53) protocol. When Berkey filtered water was incubated and viewed under an electron microscope in lab tests, nothing was present but pure H2O. Other contaminants reduced to below-detectable-limits include Trihalomethanes, Radon 222, and volatile organic compounds including Benzene, 2,4-D, Heptachlor, MTBE, Styrene, Tetrachloroethylene and Toulene, among many others.
